Rub your finger, gloved or naked, on your home’s siding. If you see chalky dust the muted color of your paint, it’s time to paint: the pigment and binders are coming apart.

Colors
Choosing colors for your Boston area home is not an easy task. Nothing is more disappointing than seeing a color turn out less than expected. Take time in selecting your colors. Also be aware that using quarts to sample colors can sometimes be misleading. Paint colors are formulated in gallons. When a quart is needed, the formula is divided by four. Check Up.
To test to see if you have oil-based or latex paint, dampen a rag with denatured alcohol and rub a test area. If paint comes off, it’s latex; if it hardly comes off, it’s oil-based paint.
